Component
To understand optical components, one must first understand the word component or the meaning. Components basically means parts of a whole. Here we will look at a few or the parts that make up optical components.

Cylindrical Lenses
Focuses the light onto a line not a specific point. Cylindrical or cylinder lens are made or ground down to curved shapes. The basics for the cylindrical lenses is commonly for eye glasses or the correction of some kind of eye illness such as a astigmatism. However cylindrical lenses have much greater applications. Some examples where these kinds of lenses are used are Lasers , Holograms, Bar Code Scanning and making images bigger.

Spherical Lenses
Spherical Lenses are one of two kinds of lenses. Convex Lenses focus light to one specific point. A concave lens focuses light at many different points at on time. An example of as convex lens use is a projector. An example of the concave lens can be used in a camera.

Mirrors
Even a simple mirror is used in Optical components. The mirrors are used in two ways. The mirrors reflect and directs light. The mirrors also reflect images or reverses the images in the optic component application. One example where a type of mirror is used is a camera.

Crystals
The crystal is yet another optical component. Crystals are stones found naturally all over the world. However some can and are man made. The crystal is not only used in jewelry and fine art works. Scientist use and perfect crystals to use in optical components. A crystal can shift and divert lights and rays of light. Such an example where crystal is use are lasers and prisms.

Other Optical Components
There are too many other parts and components uses in the application of Optics. In fact there are far to many components to mention and try to explain here. You get the ideal of just how many different kinds of things are involved in creating Optical components.
